Motor Imagery

October 29 2025

You might be thinking Mon and Jess are just slacking on the job in this photo but actually, they are working hard performing what is known as motor imagery.

Multiple studies conducted by neuroscientists revealed that mentally imagining specific movements actually activates the same neural pathways that activate when you do the physical movement! This can therefore, help improve strength and physical function.

This is good news for those who are recovering from an injury and can’t currently return to the physical component of their sport or work.

To do this at home, work on choosing a specific action/movement and visualise yourself performing it every day for around 15-20mins. The more consistent you are, the better brain adaptations that will occur.
