A study done by Katelyn A Born et.al revealed that chocolate milk is actually more beneficial than traditional sports or energy drinks in terms of repairing muscles and replenishing glycogen after workouts.
Chocolate milk contains adequate electrolytes (that are excreted by the body when we sweat) but it also contains the ideal carbohydrate-to-protein ratio (3:1), which is essential for muscle recovery.
This can also suggest that just because a drink or supplement may not be produced by a sports nutrition/supplement brand, this doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t be beneficial for athletes.
It is important to note that most chocolate milks contain a relatively high amount of sugar therefore, this is something to be mindful of.
